Shopify Installation Guide
Get started with Synton AI on your Shopify store. Installation takes less than 5 minutes.
Prerequisites
Before installing, ensure you have:

Synton AI works with all Shopify plans: Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Shopify Plus.
Step 1: Install from Shopify App Store
- Visit the Shopify App Store
- Search for "Synton AI"
- Click on the Synton AI app listing
- Click Add app
- Review the permissions requested:
- Read and write products
- Read and write orders
- Read customers
- Read and write discounts
- Read and write theme files
- Click Install app
You'll be redirected to the Synton AI dashboard within Shopify.
Step 2: Enable App Embed
For the best experience, enable the Synton AI app embed in your theme:
- After installation, you'll see a prompt: "Enable app embed"
- Click Enable
- You'll be taken to your theme customizer
- In the left sidebar under App embeds, toggle Synton AI to ON
- Click Save in the top right
App embeds allow Synton AI to inject widgets (reviews, upsells, chatbot) into your store without manual code editing.
Step 3: Configure Initial Settings
- In the Synton AI dashboard, click Settings in the left navigation
- Review and configure:
- Store Information: Verify your store details
- AI Preferences: Select your preferred AI interaction style
- Notifications: Choose which events you want to be notified about
Step 4: Have Your First Conversation
- Click Chat in the left navigation
- The AI will greet you and offer suggestions
- Try these starter commands:
"Show me my top 5 products by revenue"
"What were my sales yesterday?"
"Create a 20% discount code called WELCOME20"
The AI will execute these commands and provide results immediately.
Verification
To verify the installation is working correctly:
Check API Connection
- Go to Settings > Integrations in Synton
- You should see Shopify with a green Connected status
- Click Test Connection to verify API access
Check Data Sync
- In the Chat, ask:
"How many products do I have?" - The AI should return an accurate count matching your Shopify admin
Check App Embed
- Visit your online store
- Open browser developer tools (F12)
- Search the page source for
synton-ai - You should see the app embed script loaded
Webhook Configuration
Synton AI automatically sets up webhooks for real-time updates. To verify:
- In Shopify admin, go to Settings > Notifications
- Scroll to Webhooks
- You should see entries for:
orders/createorders/updatedproducts/createproducts/updateproducts/deletecustomers/create
All should point to https://shopify.synton.ai/webhooks
If webhooks are missing, Synton AI will automatically recreate them. No action needed.
Troubleshooting
"App failed to install"
Cause: Shopify API timeout or temporary network issue
Solution:
- Refresh the page
- Try installing again
- If persists, contact Shopify support to verify app approval status
"Permission denied" errors
Cause: Your Shopify user role doesn't have app installation permissions
Solution:
- Ensure you're logged in as the store owner
- Or request a staff account with "Apps and channels" permission
- Have the owner install the app and grant you access in Synton
App embed not showing
Cause: Theme customizer didn't save or conflicts with theme
Solution:
- Go to Shopify admin > Online Store > Themes
- Click Customize on your active theme
- Navigate to App embeds in left sidebar
- Toggle Synton AI on and click Save
- If still not working, check for JavaScript errors in browser console
Data not syncing
Cause: Webhook delivery failure or API rate limiting
Solution:
- In Synton, go to Settings > Integrations > Shopify
- Click Sync Now to trigger manual sync
- Check webhook status in Shopify admin
- Review sync logs in Synton under Settings > Logs
Chat not responding
Cause: Network issue or temporary API outage
Solution:
- Check status.synton.ai for service status
- Refresh the page
- Clear browser cache and try again
- If persists, contact support with the conversation ID shown in error message
